2 Day Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale

A one-night trip to Kibale Forest for a guided chimpanzee tracking walk - a shorter and less costly primate experience than gorilla trekking.

Kibale Forest has a high density of chimpanzees and several habituated troops, which makes it one of the most dependable places in East Africa to see them in the wild. This short trip is built around a single tracking session.

You drive from Entebbe on day one, stay overnight near the forest, and go tracking with a ranger early the next morning. Chimpanzees are noisy and active, so tracking often involves following calls and moving quickly when the troop does. Afterwards you drive back to Entebbe.

It suits travellers with limited time or budget, people extending a work trip to Uganda, and anyone who could not get a gorilla permit for their dates. If you have one more day, the neighbouring Bigodi Wetland community walk is a good addition.

Questions About This Safari

Is this a good alternative if gorilla permits are sold out?

Yes. Chimpanzee tracking is easier to book, costs less and still gives you a genuine wild primate encounter.

What if we don't find the chimpanzees?

Kibale's success rate is high because the troops are habituated and rangers track their movements daily, but sightings are never guaranteed.
