Holidays with children go better with fewer fixed plans. This Zanzibar itinerary has just one activity - a half-day boat trip to Prison Island - and leaves the rest of the time for the pool and the beach.
We choose the resort with families in mind: a pool, safe beach access and rooms that work for your group. Prison Island is a short boat ride from Stone Town and its giant tortoises tend to be a hit with children; there is also gentle snorkelling in shallow water nearby. You are back at the resort in time for a free afternoon.
The trip pairs naturally with a family safari beforehand. Our article on planning a family safari covers age limits, routes and what helps children enjoy it.
