7 Day Kenya Group Safari: Mara, Naivasha, Nakuru & Amboseli

Our longest shared group safari: the Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli in seven days.

This is the fullest of our group departures, covering four contrasting stops: the open plains of the Masai Mara, a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, the rhino sanctuary at Lake Nakuru and the elephant herds of Amboseli.

Seven days lets you see most of southern Kenya's highlights without paying for a private vehicle. You share a 4x4 and driver-guide with other travellers and stay at budget camps and lodges.

Best Time to Visit

The Mara has wildlife all year, so the best month depends on what you want.

  • July to October: the migration is usually in the Mara and river crossings are possible. Peak prices and the most vehicles.
  • November to mid-December and January to March: fewer visitors, green scenery and good resident game. January to March is when the herds are calving in the southern Serengeti, so wildebeest numbers in the Mara are lower.
  • April to May: the long rains. Some camps close, roads can be difficult, and prices are at their lowest.

Questions About This Safari

Is seven days on a group safari tiring?

There is one long travel day (Nakuru to Amboseli). The Naivasha stop gives you a gentler day in the middle of the trip.

Can I end at the coast instead of Nairobi?

Yes. Amboseli is a good starting point for a transfer towards Mombasa or Diani - ask us when you enquire.
