This is a compact bush-and-beach trip for travellers who want both halves of Tanzania without a long itinerary. The safari covers Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater; then you fly from Arusha to Zanzibar for three nights by the sea.
The two halves feel completely different, which is the point. Days one to three are early starts and game drives; days four to six are slow mornings, swimming and a half-day in Stone Town. The crater morning and the flight to the island happen on the same day, so you go from the crater floor to the beach by evening.
The main thing this version leaves out is the Serengeti. If you have more time, we can add it before the flight - our northern Tanzania circuit guide explains how much time that adds.

TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire's elephants and baobab woodland
A morning game drive on the Ngorongoro Crater floor
Domestic flight from Arusha to Zanzibar included
Stone Town walking tour and open beach days
Pick-up in Arusha and the drive to Tarangire National Park. Your afternoon game drive follows the river, where elephants and other wildlife gather, especially in the dry season.
Drive west and up into the cooler highlands around the crater, through farmland and changing countryside. Depending on timing there may be a short game drive on the way, or simply time to rest before the early start tomorrow.
Descend into the crater early for a morning game drive on the floor of the caldera. Afterwards you drive back to Arusha for your flight to Zanzibar and transfer to the beach, arriving in the evening.
A whole day with nothing scheduled - a good way to recover from the early safari mornings.
A half-day guided walk through Stone Town's old quarter, its market streets, carved doorways and trading history, then back to the beach for the afternoon.
A free morning, then a private transfer to the airport.
Planning tip: see our guide on Planning a Family Safari in Kenya or Tanzania.
Accommodation: Mid-range safari lodges for two nights and a mid-range beach resort for three nights, upgradeable to luxury.
Vehicle: 4x4 safari Land Cruiser, then domestic flight to Zanzibar
The dry season, roughly June to October, is the best time for large herds along the river. In the wet season animals disperse outside the park, but the landscape is green and bird-watching is excellent.
